Goals:

- To direct and produce a docuseries ‘In Their Own Words’ capturing the stories and the people behind Land O’Lakes products.

- To capture behind-the-scenes still images on two Land O’Lake co-op dairy farms during the filming of a network-aired commercial and music video.

The Docuseries and images are used in marketing materials, on their the website, in external advertising and press

Land O’Lakes is a member-owned dairy co-op that was formed in 1921. Now they are 1700 members strong and increasingly are women-owned operations. The docuseries and behind-the-scenes images were captured onsite in Pennsylvania at two farms. We proudly captured the joy that these farmers bring to their work. Press for this launch included the Today Show.

PCC COMMUNITY MARKETS

Goal: To build an image library for the largest co-op grocery store in the United States.

Images are used in-store, in marketing materials, on their the website, and in external advertising

This was an ambitious project in which over 75 farmers and small goods and food producers were to be photographed on site. There were tremendous challenges that included seasonality of goods, weather, travel to all corners of the state, the worst drought year on record and state of emergency declared by the governor due to the severity of wildfires that burned hundreds of thousands of acres including farms and their buildings. But in the end, the delivery of a library of images to reflect the passion of the people behind the food exceeded the client’s expectations.

SIMPLE & CRISP

Goal: To develop recipes, style and photograph - one savory and one sweet for the packaging of each of the four products in the simple & crisp line. Also developed, styled, and photographed monthly recipes and photographs for Martha Stewart online.

Images are used on the product box, in marketing materials, on their the website, and in external advertising

Simple & Crisp wanted simple, approachable recipes and images that enticed the gourmet cracker buyer. The product is in Whole Foods nationwide, regional high-end grocery stores, delis and specialty shops.

Mesa de Vida’s story starts with Chef Helle, a young woman who was in an abusive domestic relationship and in poor health. She struck out on her own with two small children, lost over 100lbs and taught herself to cook from books she checked out of the library. Her products are sold in Whole Foods nationwide.

JAMESON WHISKEY/VOX

images.png

Goal: To capture Jameson products at various bars around the Seattle area for a Vox Media sponsored article for St Patrick’s Day.

Images are used on on Vox Eater website - linked here

Capturing the personality of the terrific bars, bartenders and their specialty drinks was a fun challenge over the course of several days. Lots of logistics to be sorted out to have bartenders come in during the daylight hours or to shoot in underground bars with funky and less than ideal lighting. The images exceed expectations with the client and they have since sought me out for future campaigns.

PIKE PLACE MARKET

pike-place-logo.png

Goal: To capture two farmers for the Pike Place Market advertising campaign

Images are used in marketing materials, on their the website, and in external advertising that included billboards on the sides of Seattle’s public transit

Pike Place Market was founded on August 17, 1907 to provide Seattle citizen's direct access to local producers. That first day, farmers arrived with wagons chock full of produce and a grand tradition in public markets was born. Farmers continue to be the center and the soul of Pike Place Market and I was thrilled to be a part of capturing that.

A KITCHEN BOX

a-kitchen-box-nov-.jpg

Goal: A fancy food item subscription box service invited me to be a featured influencer. I designed the box around my Instagram handle and first book title - Rooted In The Valley. I developed four beet-based recipes, style and photograph to be included in box along with the ingredients needed for the subscribers to create the recipes at home.

Images are used in The Rooted In The Valley Subscription Box

A Kitchen Box is a monthly subscription box featuring unique food items. I designed recipes that featured beets and the ingredients that were featured in the box (vinegars, spices and more) I also styled and photographed the images for the recipe cards.

Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 17 acres of land. DRAPER VALLEY FARMS

download.jpg

Goal: To build an image library for the largest regional chicken producer in the Pacific Northwest.

Images are used in-store, in marketing materials, on their the website, and in external advertising

Draper Valley is the largest regional chicken producer in the Pacific Northwest. Founded as a 1935, to a single, family-owned egg farm in the Skagit Valley - the past 80 years have seen them grow to meet consumers demands yet continue to focus on production methods they can be proud of. Challenges of photographing chickens included being extremely particular about biosecurity - ensuring that I sanitized my boots between farms and wore biosecurity coveralls and headgear to protect the health of the birds. It also required lots of patience for the birds to trust my presence and allow me to be in their space. A career highlight!

THE GRANGE

Goal: To build an image library for a local farm-to-table restaurant.

Images are used on their the website, and in external advertising for the Grange Restaurant

The Grange is a long standing institution in the Duvall, WA community. Recently purchased by local farmers, Sarah Cassidy and Luke Woodward - the restaurant went through a renovation and menu overhaul. A true farm-to-table experience overlooking the the farms it sources from. I captured opening night and impromptu portraits of the staff as they readied for their debut.
If you visit, you’ll also find my images on the walls of the new space!
